The PTA is proud to be able to offer the following programs to the Sandpiper community. If you wish to help with any committee, please contact the Committee Chair (please refer to the School Directory or call the front office for contact information).

PROGRAMS (Lisa Chavez)

Adopt-A-Book (Carol Castro)
This program gives families an opportunity to "adopt" a book for the school library.

All Pro Dads Workshop (Andy Stulbarg)
New this year!  The All Pro Dads is a one-hour monthly breakfast held before school where fathers (or single moms) and their children (boys and girls) meet with other families.  At this gathering we discuss a wide range of family topics, spend time together, and equip ourselves with tools to builder a stronger relationship.

Art in Action (Andrea Burfield & Lisa Eliopolous)
Developed by a Bay Area nonprofit organization dedicated to maintaining visual arts education in the classroom.  This art enrichment curriculum is provided during class by trained parent volunteers throughout the school year. 

Assemblies (Ted Hornaday & Kristin Mack)
Several times a year, school curriculum is enhanced with guest speakers and performances.

Community Outreach (Valerie Estacuy)
Throughout the year, students give back to our community by donating goods or doing charitable work for families in need.

Homework Club (OPEN)

The homework club is open to students who benefit from 1:1 support.  Held after-school one or more days a week.

Hot Lunch (Uli Francis & Doug Eckles)
Taste Nutrition offers a variety of nutritious meals through an online order form.  Volunteers deliver meals every Friday to student classrooms.  In 2008, an additional Thursday meal service will be offered if there are enough volunteers.

Parent Education (Bonnie Wolf)
Every few months parents come together to discuss common areas of interest.  Moderated by a guest speaker.

Technology (Doug Eckles)
Providing strategic direction and technical expertise to ensure Sandpiper's Lab and classroom equipment is among the best in the District.

FALL EVENTS (WINNIE CHEUNG)

Fall Festival (Jackie Cheung, Angie Haist-Bowen, Susan Wilson)

The Fall Festival is host to two events:  Fall Carnival & Holiday Boutique.  Spend an afternoon with family and friends while enjoying some old fashioned fun at our carnival.  Then, get an early start on your holiday shopping at the community Boutique featuring local artists.

Red Ribbon Week (OPEN)
A national program to educate students on the danger of drug use. At Sandpiper, this theme is expanded to include “making healthy choices” each day through exercise and nutrition.  The 2008-2008 event is scheduled the week of October 23-31.

Reflections Art (Katie Vanoncini)
A National PTA art recognition and achievement program.   This program gives students the opportunity to express themselves creatively and receive recognition for their original works of award (drawing, music, dance, photography).  The 2008-2009 theme is "Wow!" and takes place in Oct/Nov.

SPRING EVENTS (LISA ECKLES)

5th Grade Graduation (Pam Hopkins, Julia Leeper)

The culmination of many years of hard work, this committee helps to coordinate the various graduation activities which may include a field trip, teacher luncheon, and graduation ceremonies.

Family Picnic (PTA Officers)
The evening before the last day of school, families are invited to bring a picnic dinner and blanket and enjoy an evening outdoors.

Multi-Cultural Celebration Event (Gerry Faessen & Cari Yuen)
A celebration of the diversity and culture of the Sandpiper community, including Fashion Show, Talent Showcase and Potluck Dinner.

Family Dinner Dance (Dana Posey & Karen Hart)
Always a sell-out, the annual Family Dinner Dance is a great way to have fun with the Sandpiper community.

Teacher Appreciation Week (Michele Carlsen, Michelle Carroll, Shelly Muldoon)
A week-long celebration to show our teachers and staff how much we appreciate they do for our children.

Volunteer Appreciation (OPEN)
It's the little things that add up to a lot.  This breakfast event is small token of thanks to the parents and community members that support Sandpiper.

COMMUNICATIONS (SUE KIM-AHN)

Family Directory (Ferda Calter, Joe Carrasco, Andrew Young)
A “must-have” in every home, the Sandpiper Directory is a one-stop handbook for parent, teacher, and student contact information, as well as important dates and events.  The Directory can be ordered at Welcome Back Registration for $2 (first copy is free to PTA Members).

Room Parent Representative (Molly Matava)
 The Room Parent Liaison is a communication link between classrooms and the PTA.  The liaison provides tips and support to designated Room Parent representatives.

Sandpiper News Nugget (Kelvin Gee)
An online newsletter delivered every two weeks via email.  Contains important school, District, and community information.

Student Newspaper (Jennifer Lui)
A quarterly newspaper produced by and for students.

Teacher Representative
A liaison between the PTA and Sandpiper Staff, the representative produces valuable feedback on the quality of PTA funded programs and activities.

Webmaster (Terry Coley & Nancy Narimatsu)

Supports the communications goal of the PTA by posting and maintaining content on the school website.

Yearbook (Stacey Okumura)
Time goes by fast! Luckily the Yearbook is there to remind students of the great days spent at Sandpiper. Yearbook purchases can be made at Welcome Back Registration or by contacting out Committee Chair.

Show your school spirit with our new line of t-shirts and sweatshirts.

Book Fair (Lori Fong & Kim Bagby)
Held in the Fall and Spring, the Book Fair is an opportunity for families to purchase quality books at great prices. The PTA receives a percentage of all the proceeds. In addition teachers select books they would like to receive to enhance their classroom libraries. Volunteer opportunities available for this program.

Box Tops for Education (OPEN)
A “Box Tops for Education” coupon can be found on hundreds of consumer products (easiest to spot on the top of cereal boxes). Clip this coupon and have your child turn it into a special envelope located in their classroom. Sandpiper will receive $0.10 for each coupon collected (don't delay, coupons have expiration dates).

E-Scrip (Vivian Crisman)
Sign up for eScrip and each time you use your grocery loyalty card, credit card, or debit/ATM card a portion of your purchases will be donated to Sandpiper.  Sign up today online, Sandpiper ID is 121842280.

Holiday Boutique (Susan Wilson & Michelle Stulbarg)
Parents and local businesses sell unique items just in time for the holidays.  Held during the Fall Festival.

School Force Liaison (Lisa Chavez)
School-Force is a volunteer, non-profit organization which raises funds to enable the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District to provide the staffing and programs which State Funds and the PTA cannot. These programs include reading/writing enrichment, music instruction, science instruction, and speech & language therapists.  www.schoolforce.org

Sandpiper Social & Auction (Michelle Stulbarg, Rebecca Baker)
A parents-only evening event with live and silent auction.  Funds are used to support PTA Programs through the rest of the school year, and ensure a basis of start-up funds for the following year.  2008-2009 event to be held in the new Shores Library.

Write-A-Check (Michelle Carroll)
Encouraged at Welcome Back Registration (but welcome year-round) the Write-A-Check program enables parents to make a single financial contribution to the PTA. Donations are tax deductible and matched by corporate Matching Gift programs.

PUBLIC RELATIONS (Vivian Crisman)

Advocacy (OPEN)
Support the PTA in advocacy for the welfare of children by identifying relevant local, state and national legislation and policies that impact the wellbeing of Sandpiper children.

Hospitality (Lori Moon & Maya Paratian)
Help to create an inviting atmosphere at PTA meetings and events.  The point of contact for local mechants/vendors who may donate refreshments/decorations for PTA events.

PTA Membership (Mindy Shelton)
PTA Membership helps strengthen Sandpiper by ensuring a vibrant, active community dedicated to the success of our children. 

Special Education PTA Liaison (Kathy Lin)
SEPTA serves the unique needs of families whose children are enrolled in some form of special education.
